The NHTSA has docked a record penalty of $105 million against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles over lapses in safety recalls involving millions of vehicles, according to documents obtained by Reuters.

Under the agreement with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the automaker will also offer to buy back as many as 1.5 million vehicles.
